The Journey – an Interactive Exhibition on the Flight of Refugees
Travelling exhibition for the Youth Church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church District of Hamburg-West/Südholstein
This exhibition was inspired by photographs taken by Dutch photographer Ad van Denderen, who has accompanied refugees through the medium of photography since the mid-1980s. The youth church in Groß Flottbek was converted to accommodate the exhibition, creating many smaller rooms. Blow-ups of the black-and-white images taken by van Denderen are fixed to construction site fences.
For 90 minutes, the teenage visitors adopt a new identity, moving through various stations and experiencing what it feels like to abandon their homes.
