A huge birthday table takes centre stage, complete with an oversized birthday cake. From Mr Sleeve to the Wild 13, all of the guests have come to celebrate with their personal gifts. Jim’s many adventures are depicted on the table.
Guests large and small can make their way around the table and take in the wonderful places from the stories, discovering some exciting phenomena along the way. Children can get hands-on and learn about the echo, Fata Morgana and how a volcano works. And that’s not all: under the table, curious visitors can immerse themselves in a fascinating underwater world.
Besides the interactive birthday room with its interconnected displays, other areas adopt a more traditional museum approach, providing information on the background to the Jim Button books and how they were received. Letters to readers and mementos from Michael Ende’s life bring visitors closer to the author.
In the puppet theatre, visitors can try their hand at puppetry, while book worms can curl up in the reading corner and film fans can watch four decades’ worth of Jim Button screen adaptations in the cinema.
